Treargel invites you to experience daily reflections, weekly meditation and regular retreats.
Personal Retreats

If your life is a busy one, with many cares and concerns, then you would probably benefit from a time of quiet prayer and reflection.  Self and individually guided retreats can be organised for any duration and in any combination of residential or day visit, self, part or fully catered.

  1. DIY Quiet day. A day where you can do your own thing and bring your own packed lunch, with access to hot drinks and a microwave. Donations always gratefully received.

  2. Individually Guided Quiet Day. This day would include 2 half-hour sessions at the beginning and end with a guide to listen and help steer you in the right direction. It would also include lunch with us or silent. With a suggested donation of £15

 

You can use the gardens, labyrinth and of course the Coastal Path and also the Barn lounge, library and kitchen. Use of the other indoor spaces including the Hermitage would depend on other bookings at the time. If they are not booked you would be welcome to use them. Since we have teenagers who love to sing, weekday, term-time is probably the quietest, though do ask if not convenient.

Guided Retreats

A guided retreat (Residential or Day) will normally include all or some of the following aspects:

 

  • Time to Pray; Normally between three and five periods of private prayer a day - the length of which will vary according to what you feel comfortable with.

  • A Listening Ear; You will see a Spiritual Companion for a daily spiritual accompaniment meeting, usually taking between half and three-quarters of an hour. Thus drawing up a brief retreat plan together.

  • Silence; Time between prayer periods is most profitably spent alone, in silence.. For a few days in the year, it is good not to seek escape by filling our time with TV, computers, radio, mobile phones, chatter or the many other distractions of daily life.

  • Leisure Time; A certain amount of reading, listening to music, having a long soak in the bath etc might well be helpful.  Retreat time can often be used profitably to do things you really love to do and rarely have time for.

  • Be Creative; You may find that using art materials, clay, paint, pens or pencils is helpful to express yourself in a non-verbal way.  Art materials are available upon request.

  • Healthy lifestyle; A retreat is a good opportunity to take up a healthy lifestyle. Give yourself plenty of time for sleep.  Exercise the body - walking and fresh air are ideal.  Take a daily walk through the Labyrinthexplore the South West Coastal Path and the walks around Hendersick Farm.

 
Group Retreats

If you are looking to bring a group, you are very welcome to bring your own retreat leader, or we can provide you with someone to lead your group who will discuss and tailor a retreat to meet your requirements.

Treargel works in partnership with our neighbours at Sclerder Abbey, the Chemin Neuf Community and Hendersick Farmhouse B&B. Between us, we can cater and accommodate small and large groups, subject to availability.

 
Retreats in Daily Life

A Retreat in Daily Life offers the chance to make some quiet prayerful space without leaving home or taking time away from work. This kind of retreat normally takes place over a few days or a few weeks, often in one of the seasons of the church year, such as Advent (before Christmas), Lent (before Easter) or Pentecost (after Easter).

 

For the period of the retreat, you make a commitment to praying each day, and to meet regularly for conversation about prayer with a spiritual director/companion.

 

There is a welcoming gathering at the start, and a similar shared closing to end. Retreats in daily life are sometimes hosted by a group of churches working together, but they are open to people of any faith background and none.

 
Weekly Meditation

Meditation is a universal spiritual wisdom and a practice found at the core of all the great religious traditions, leading from the mind to the heart. It is a way of simplicity, silence and stillness. It can be practised by anyone, wherever you are on your life’s journey. It is only necessary to be clear about the practice and then to begin – and to keep on beginning.

 

A Christian meditation group - WCCM Meditation Groups - is held every week in the Barn on a Monday evening at 6pm.  Members of the local community and guests at Treargel are invited to attend.
